LANTANA CAMARA

Lantana Camara – named after the lantana, a plant known for its versatility – performs in various line-ups. The core members include Sophia Aretz (baroque flute), Amarilis Dueñas (viola da gamba/violoncello), Alexander von Heißen (harpsichord), Jonas Zschenderlein (violin) and Jakob Wagner (lute).

The young musicians have already performed at renowned festivals and concert series, including the “Honrather Konzerte”, the festival “Viva Musica” festival, the “Bachtage” in Thuringia, the Felix Festival by the Kölner Philharmonie, the Zamus early music festival in Cologne, the International Baroque Days at “Stift Melk” and the “Donaufestwochen” in Austria.

The ensemble focuses primarily on music from the period between 1600 and 1750, performed on replicas of baroque instruments. The chamber musicians see it as their responsibility to keep the old music alive and to interpret it with musical freedom to show its accessibility. Three centuries after its creation, Baroque music can still touch hearts today with its passion, power and great emotionality.
